Kate Sutton experiments with the audience and structure of her writing. Her published work includes an itinerant email exchange with Bill Berkson for Wandering, a piece on window shopping in Claes Oldenburg’s Store for LEAP, a roundup of the unlikely players populating the research-based work of Michael Stevenson for Bidoun, and an introduction to John Baldessari for a special feature in Vogue Russia. She travels the world, writing art criticism from the road.
Kate Sutton lived in St. Petersburg’s legendary Pushkinskaya-10 Art Commune, where she spent several years building up an archive of the former squat’s residents. She later moved to Moscow to help found the non-profit Baibakov Art Projects. As associate curator, she brought artists like Paul Pfeiffer, Cyprien Gaillard, Latifa Echakhch, Luc Tuymans, and Wade Guyton to Moscow, while showcasing the local scene. She also began to write short-form reviews and articles. As of 2011, she has forgone a regular residence, chronicling her travels for Artforum.com and contributing reviews to Artforum, ArtChronika, Bidoun, and LEAP, among others.
