Leanne Goebel is a freelance arts journalist and critic who writes regularly for the Durango Herald. In addition to her coverage of Durango, Goebel recently began to report on shows, symposia, and other contemporary art events in the regional centers of Santa Fe, Denver and Taos as a way of contextualizing the local art scene. Goebel explains that by expanding her coverage of contemporary art for the readers of newspapers in rural southwest Colorado to include exhibitions, art fairs, and biennials around the globe – as she is doing under the auspices of this grant – she will help educate both the public and regional artists and raise their level of exposure to contemporary art. Leanne Goebel is an independent arts writer, critic, journalist, and curator. Since focusing her writing on art and culture, she has won awards and fellowships including first place in the Top of the Rockies contest for the Society of Professional Journalists for her Art Writer blog and a 2009 NEA International Arts Journalism Fellowship. She is a senior contributor to the western US’s premier online art magazine adobeairstream.com.
