John Motley

From 2005 to May 2009, John Motley served as visual arts critic for the Portland Mercury, Portland, Oregon’s leading arts and culture weekly, where he covered the city’s arts scene through reviews, artist profiles, and features. He is currently contributing reviews to Art Papers and working on a book-length project in collaboration with Fourteen30 Contemporary in Portland, Oregon. His writing on literature and music has also appeared in The Oregonian, Afterimage, Pitchfork Media, and Under the Radar. He holds a BA and MA in English literature from the University of Oregon.
