A Year of Positive Thinking (Blog)
Mira Schor will create a blog of writings on contemporary art and culture to accompany and provide a positive counterpoint to the publication of her book A Decade of Negative Thinking: Essays on Art, Politics, and Daily Life (Duke University Press, 2010). She will write about contemporary art and other cultural events, including films, poetry, and political events, with a view to reaching an audience of young artists. The blog will be a natural extension of her teaching and the frequent emails and links to events, texts, and images of interest that she sends students. While she has often written critically about artworks, often against the interests of the market and at some risk to her career, she argues that her survival as an artist is based on the existence of works she loves and that make her want to produce art.

Mira Schor is the co-founder and editor of M/E/A/N/I/N/G, a journal of contemporary art. She is the author of A Decade of Negative Thinking: Essays on Art, Politics, and Daily Life (Duke University Press, 2010) and Wet: On Painting, Feminism, and Art Culture (Duke University Press, 1997). She is the co-editor, with Susan Bee, of M/E/A/N/I/N/G: An Anthology of Artists Writings, Theory, and Criticism (Duke University Press, 2000) and she edited The Extreme of the Middle: Writings of Jack Tworkov (Yale University Press, 2009). She teaches at Parsons The New School for Design and recently had a one-person show at Momenta Art in Brooklyn. She received the 1999 College Art Association Frank Jewett Mather Award in art criticism, a National Endowment for the Arts award in painting, a Guggenheim Fellowship in painting, and a Pollock-Krasner grant in painting. Schor holds an MFA in painting from CalArts.
