HUO [Hans Ulrich Obrist] (Book)
HUO is an annotated and anecdotal bibliography of the exhibitions, publications, and public programs of the Swiss curator Hans Ulrich Obrist, head curator at the Serpentine Gallery in London. The publication will accompany an exhibition covering a twenty-year survey of HUO’s curatorial practice. Since his first public exhibition in his own apartment (Kitchen Show, St. Gallen, 1991), Olbrist has curated and co-curated more than forty-five exhibitions, including Cities on the Move (Vienna, Bordeaux, London, Humlebaek, Bangkok) and Utopia Station (2003 Venice Biennale, traveling). His publications include more than 300 curatorial-related projects. As an artist, Joseph Grigely has worked closely with Hans Ulrich on more than twenty exhibitions and projects and has detailed experience with his working methods. Over the past seven years, Grigely has assembled an archive of more than 700 documents on Obrist, including interviews and catalogue essays. In this book, the artist and curator will reverse roles: the artist will curate the curator in a way that will reinvigorate the traditional genre of bibliography, making it accessible to a wide audience.

Joseph Grigely is an artist and a critical theorist with a specialty in bibliography and textual criticism. His articles include “White” in Cabinet (Fall 2007), “Blindness and Deafness as Metaphors: An Anthological Essay” in the Journal of Visual Culture (Summer 2006), “The Next Documenta Should Be Curated By An Artist” in Revolver (2004), and a book-length-study, Textualterity: Art, Theory, and Textual Criticism, published by the University of Michigan Press (1995). Grigely holds a DPhil from Oxford University.
