Tyler Coburn will write a series of articles on the Japanese artists Yu Araki, Hikaru Fujii, and Tatsuma Takeda, each of whom have made work about the early European presence in Japan, exploring dynamics of trade, representation, and belief.

Tyler Coburn is a writer and artist. His writing has appeared in publications including ArtReview, ArtReviewAsia, BOMB, C Magazine, Dis, e-flux journal, frieze, LEAP, MaHKUscript, Metropolis M, Motherboard, Mousse, Pfeil, and Rhizome. He is the author of the books I’m that angel (self-published, 2012), Robots Building Robots (CCA Glasgow, 2013), Richard Roe (Sternberg, 2019), and Solitary (Sternberg and Art Sonje Center, 2022). As an artist, Coburn has presented work at venues including the Centre Pompidou, Paris; Bergen Kunsthall; Para Site, Hong Kong; and Kunstverein Munich.
