Yinka Elujoba will write thirty short essays in the form of mediations about thirty photographs of Lagos, Nigeria, over the course of thirty days, to elevate discourses surrounding photography in the city. Working through the relationship between text and images, he will attempt to create a cartography of the city that simultaneously weighs and encompasses events/nonevents that inform or impress upon its sociology, politics, and landscape.
Yinka Elujoba is a writer and art critic from Nigeria. He contributes regularly to the New York Times. His writing has also appeared in ArtReview, Brooklyn Rail, Harper’s, and in exhibition catalogs. In 2021 he was awarded a Rabkin Prize for visual arts journalism.
